2018 Reflections

2018 is coming to an end, and for many, December is a month of reflection. Last Thursday, I was blessed to attend a Christmas breakfast with over 800 commercial real estate professionals, which inspired my closing 2018 blog.

I had the opportunity to hear from two great speakers: Ken Franzese and Bob Goff.

Ken is a Chicago-based developer who survived a plane crash over New Mexico. He recounted his story where he asked for six specific prayers to help guide him out of the wilderness. On his path out, each one of his prayers was answered, including reuniting with his friend and co-pilot. Once out of the wilderness, he learned that he and his friend were the only people to ever crash in those woods and to make it out alive.

Bob, the other speaker, is the author of the New York Times bestseller Everybody Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People. He spoke about how we should spend the time we have left, using a mirror to see ourselves and understanding how we are connected as humans though our experiences. He focused on healing through love and embracing vulnerability. The question that resonated with me from both speeches as we look forward to 2019 is "What do you want?" The focus isn't the question but how we answer it.

My 2018 has been great! I was able to accomplish many steps toward my professional goals and cap it with another wonderful and professional event. Of course, I have more professional goals, but I would like to balance those goals with impacting Chicago through community service. I want to continue to move toward health and financial goals with a renewed focus. I want to spend more time with friends and family building new memories and re-living old ones. I want to do all of these things while living the five life lessons from Dr. Seuss. I am grateful for 2018 and thankful in advance for all that is to come in 2019.
